Hi everyone, as you may have heard (possibly even from this very page) The Iowa MCC Relief Sale will be a little bit different this year. The board has collectively made the decision to continue with a purely online auction that will run from May 30th to June 6th. This will include many/most of the items that you've come to expect from the relief sale: donated products from local businesses, in-home meals, and of course, quilts.
But wait there's more! There will also be a drive through meal at Kalona Mennonite on June 4th from 4:30 - 7:30. Both Meal choices (Chicken Fajitas or Smoked Pork Loin) will be served in to go containers and guests may choose whether they'd like to stay and fellowship outside at KMC or take them elsewhere. If you or someone you know would like to donate auction items, please contact Steve Groenewold at stevegroenewold@gmail.com. We appreciate everyone's amazing support and look forward to another great, if a little odd, IA MCC Relief Sale! 2020 was a strange, tough year for a lot of people, and we'll be dealing with the aftermath for a long time. In these difficult times, it's important to continue to be cognizant of the hardships of those less fortunate, less vocal, and less represented.
We know that our local community consists of a wide swath of people of varying backgrounds and means, and know that the pandemic did not hit everyone equally or evenly. Some had to scramble to care for children and loved ones as schools and other facilities closed, and others didn't even really notice when they were closing. Some struggled to adjust to the shifting social expectations and others felt little had changed for them personally. Some wrestled with tough financial decisions as their jobs and income were eroded or even extinguished, and others made their way through the months of quarantine never having to worry about the loss of a job or an expected payment that might never come. Speaking to those people who found any or even just some financial aid an absolute necessity in an incredibly stressful time, we want you to know that we stand with you and ask that you refrain from donation. Our aid is not meant to come at the expense of the wellbeing of those offering it. If, however, you land on the other end of the scale, and may have found the government stimulus or other aid unnecessary for their own situation, to consider using excess funds to support those in need, either globally or locally through MCC or some other such organization. Thank you. Saturday, June 6, 2020
Even though the Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale was cancelled this year, many people still helped raise funds for Mennonite Central Committee! Many joined us on a walk, jog, or run a 5K for MCC on June 6! THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING! Proceeds went to Mennonite Central Committe to relieve world hunger and meet human needs in more than 50 countries around the world. $4 million raised over 40 years |
