Be sure to purchase your commemorative bottomless travel mug at the sale. You can fill the mug with as much coffee, tea or soda as you would like.

Auctioning a quilt.A real favorite during the auction are the delicious homemade meals sold throughout the auction.

The quilt category has been the most consistent in gross sales. This year, again there will be over 70 quilts auctioned including wall hangings, crib quilts, afghans, and regular and queen size spreads.

To have a quilt made just for you, place your bid on the Custom Quilt. The winning bidder will get to select the size, select the colors and fabrics, and choose from several patterns for your custom-made quilt. For complete details on this unique auction item, contact Karen Mast at 319-256-7651.

Be sure to check out the Quilter's Corner booth for quilting supplies. This booth was only open Friday evening 3-9 p.m.

Peace Traveling Quilt—This quilt is traveling among relief sales in the United States The traveling quiltgathering donations to support MCC peace building projects in places torn by disaster, conflict and violence. Since 2005 traveling quilts in the US and Canada have generated over $215,000. Our goal for this quilt in 2011 is to raise $35,000 for peace. Bids in any amount toward the peace quilt will make a difference. $20 will train one person to become a peace mobilizer. $35 helps people heal from trauma through art, drama and story telling. $75 will cover travel and accommodations for one person to attend a conflict management workshop. $225 pays a teacher’s salary for one month. Be a part of the healing for people caught in the trauma of conflict. Come see this unique quilt and make a donation via your bidders card during the auction or later at the cashier’s table.

Meals in Homes—For an experience you won't forget, purchase one of the Meals in Homes. Choose from a variety of cuisines and settings, and invite your family, friends or co-workers to share it with you! Below is the list of meals that were auctioned at the 2011 sale.

  • Nyle and Lauralee Kauffman invite your party of 8-10 to their rural Iowa City home. They will serve up a TRADITIONAL MEAL with the meat to be decided on with the top bidder. This meal is good for one year!

  • Roger and Patty Gingrich invite your party of 8 to an ORGANIC LOG HOME DINNER in their Iowa City home featuring organically grown chickens from Calvin Yoder's farm. Your party of 8 will enjoy several meats grilled to perfection and seasonal foods sure to please. Appetizers will be served and a special dessert will cap off the meal. You'll think you are on vacation in Colorado! This meal must be served between September and Thanksgiving.

  • Darvin and Martha Yoder invite your party of 8 to their country home for a delicious THAI MEAL. The meal will include several curry dishes. They live close to where the I-80 Amana exit meets F32—about 8 miles east of Parnell. This meal will be served anytime from October 2011 to the end of May, 2012.

  • Ellis and Marcia Miller invite you to a MEMORABLE DINNER FOR 12 in a beautiful country home in a peaceful rural setting. Enjoy a relaxing four course candlelight meal with dinner music. Dinner will include two meats plus sides, with an exciting dessert bar to finish. This meal is good for one year!

  • Get ready for an amazing gourmet meal! Cindy Nisly is looking forward to entertaining your party of 6 to a GOURMET SURF AND TURF FOUR-COURSE MEAL! Cindy lives in SW Kalona and you've got until the end of May, 2012 to redeem this meal.

  • Catherine Ropp will make your party of 8-10 an AMISH MEAL with your choice of meat and serve it to you in her log home located in rural Kalona before the end of May, 2012.

  • Dave and Miriam Miller would like to invite your party of 8 to come to their home in Riverside to enjoy a SPECIAL MEAL FEATURING PORK LOIN raised here on the farm. The menu will also include roasted vegetables, tossed salad, homemade bread and will be topped off with some fabulous homemade ice cream. Are you hungry yet? This dinner is good until the end of May, 2012.

  • Merv and Renee Hershberger have a MEAL FOR SIX HUNGRY PEOPLE! It will include a mixed artisan lettuce salad (no iceberg lettuce here folks!) with sunflower seeds and craisins optional; jumbo pasta shells stuffed with seasoned meat and smothered with a savory cheese sauce; mouth-watering fresh, homemade bread with a choice of plain butter or pear butter (like apple butter); and for the Crème de le Crème—dessert will feature a frozen, mocha cheesecake served with coffee. This meal is good until the end of May, 2012.

  • Derek and Nici Bontrager invite your party of 8 to their home in SW Kalona for a BRUNCH featuring HOME COOKING just like Mom's! This brunch will include dishes like egg casseroles, pastries, fruits, salads, juice and coffee, to round it out. Bet you won't leave hungry and it's good for one year.

  • Have you ever dreamed of a vacation to Paris? . . . a French picnic on the Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower? . . . sipping French lemonade on the Seine River or enjoying a fresh, hot baguette at 5 p.m.? Well, this evening of fine dining will have you stepping into a Parisian café for an authentic taste of French cuisine without boarding an airplane or going through security! Come for a gourmet, five-course meal complete with French cheeses, delicate soufflés, fresh bread and spectacular crêpes. Emily and Ezra Plank, Karla and Nathan Detweiler will be your hosts and this meal will be served anytime between September 2011 and the end of May, 2012. Vegetarian friendly. Bon appétit!

  • Master Ice Cream Maker John Yutzy is offering 6 certificates for his wonderful, HOMEMADE ICE CREAM. Each certificate will get you 6-QUARTS of your favorite flavors and he will deliver them to your home if you live within a 20 mile radius of Iowa City. The certificates are good until the end of May, 2012.

  • Ever wondered what it would be like to stay at the Shepherd's Inn at Crooked Creek Christian Camp? Well now you can find out! CCCC is donating a ONE-NIGHT, TWO-ROOM STAY at their SHEPHERD'S INN. While you are there you can avail yourself of many of the camp's offerings like the many miles of trails, Frisbee golf, canoeing, kayaking, prayer labyrinth, and bird blind, depending on the time of year. If you are there in the summer, then maybe even the pool! You may book extra nights but you pay for them yourself. Reservations can be made by calling Mary Lou Farmer at the camp. Please remember the rules for Shepherd's Inn—No alcohol, smoking or pets are allowed.

  • Freeman and Vicky Miller invite your party of 8 to their country home in rural Kalona for a delicious HOME COOKED AMISH MEAL. This meal must be served before the end of December, 2011.

  • Want to take a culinary trip to Ethiopia or West Africa? Maria Ortega Kummer, from Iowa City, would like to serve you and your party of 6 an AFRICAN MEAL in your own home. The Ethiopian meal would include sautéed lamb or chicken, Alechia—a vegetable curry, a traditional salad, lentils and rice and the West African meal would include chicken and peanut stew with rice and fried plantains! The choice is up to the person with the winning bid! Maria will bring along some African music recordings, and some pictures and information about your featured country. She also won't leave until she's done the dishes for you! Now that's service! This meal is good for one year.

  • Joe and Mary Beachy will be serving up a TRADITIONAL ROAST BEEF OR CHICKEN BREAST MEAL to your party of 12 people. Their home is south of Kalona and this meal must be used before the end of 2011.
